Single Mom Smiling | Mindset Strategies for Single Moms

Are you a busy single mom struggling with overwhelm, exhaustion, and self-doubt? Are you ready to discover hope that doesn’t come from a half-eaten chocolate bar found between couch cushions, another glass of wine in a sippy cup, or swiping through online dating sites? Then the Single Mom Smiling podcast is for you! Kerri Bishop is an author, speaker, and coach who now brings her energy and enthusiasm to podcasting. She is also a single mom of FIVE boys whose husband, on Mother’s Day, suddenly announced he was leaving. He moved out one week later. Kerri was 5 months pregnant with their 5th little boy at the time. Kerri now gratefully helps other women build lives of hope and positivity. Together, we will dive into unanswered questions, issues of self-worth, and next steps so you can become the woman and mom you are meant to be all while navigating this God-given adventure called life!

What do Mary Magdalene, Roger Bannister (and his sub-four minute mile), and single moms have in common?
They all believed and change history!
As single moms you probably face obstacles that seem insurmountable, but Jesus's Resurrection shows you that, with Him and the right mindset, anything is possible!
In today's episode, we look at moving ahead when goals seem unattainable and some cool things single moms take pride in doing that they never would have believed they could do too!
When things seem impossible, believe and move forward in faith!

When life seems out of control, it may seem like only a miracle will get life back on track.
I'm sure Mary Magdalene felt the same way. I'm also sure that's why the Lord chose her to discover the empty tomb, especially in a time when women, regardless of their past, were so often overlooked.
The question is, what will you learn from Mary Magdala and the Resurrection of Jesus this Easter? Send me an email and let me know what you learn or struggle to learn. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Suffering for suffering's sake is no good. Instead, unite your suffering with Jesus's by going to Him on His Cross. This is where your suffering is redeemed. This is where your pain gains traction. This is where your agony moves mountains!

Have you ever cried out to God wondering where He is in your suffering? Have you ever wondered if He truly understands what it means to be betrayed by one you love?
Jesus did not have to die the way He did, yet He chose to suffer in that particular manner for a purpose. In Palm Sunday's readings we see Jesus is with you in every painful step of divorce and single parenting.
You are not alone.
You are Loved

Sometimes we set goals and realize, for one reason or another, we need to change direction. I often set goals that are too high and then realize as I walk through them that I bit off more than I can chew.
When my goals start interfering with God and family, it's time to set pride aside and pivot. That doesn't mean throwing in the towel and quitting. It means being open to the Holy Spirit and humbly accepting His course correction.
If you'd like help pivoting or staying on course, I'd like to hear from you! Send me an email at Kerri@SingleMomSmiling.com

Shame. Fear. Ridicule. Condemnation.
How many single parents face the same? Was the woman caught in adultery a single parent? We don't know, but we do know she faced what many single parents have.
Picture the scene...The Pharisees want Jesus gone and will use any means to get rid of Him. This includes grabbing a woman caught in the act of adultery and throwing her at His feet to publicly shame and condemn her and trap Him.
But Jesus does not condemn her.
Eventually, the Pharisees leave and only Jesus and the woman remain. Then He faces her with the words, "Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more."
Now it is up to the woman to not only sin no more, but to also live in the shame of sin no more, to live in condemnation, especially self-condemnation, no more.
This is your task too: Sin no more and live free of condemnation, especially live free of self-condemnation.
God Bless...

I am almost a year into releasing my first episode on Single Mom Smiling, and it's time to make some changes.
Maybe the biggest surprise (to me anyway!) is that I'm going back to what I found so much good in and that was so enjoyable year ago. In moving ahead, I am going back to sharing my weekly Gospel reflections.
When I wondered if there was a place for me and my children in the Catholic Church, it was through daily Bible study and taking time to sit with God's Word over the Sunday Mass readings that I heard God speak to me.
It gave me hope that God really did know what I was dealing with and it brought me into deeper Communion with Him.
I hope it does the same for you!
Join me as I introduce the new addition to the Single Mom Smiling podcast with Monday releases of Gospel reflections for broken families and those wondering if there is a place for them in the Catholic Church.
I'd love to hear your input too. Let me know what you think, tell me a story you'd like to share, or send me a question you'd like me to address in an upcoming episode. I can't wait to hear from you! :)
God Bless...

The story of the prodigal son is one many Catholics are familiar with and one many of us can identify with too.
Single parents left with all the responsibility and burden can easily slide into the mindset of the older son. Resentment can creep up when finances are decimated, little ones need care, and you are exhausted and run down and isolated. This is when it is most important for you to choose love, not as the sons did, but as the father, the often overlooked third character in the parable does.
If you would like help learning to love in all circumstances, in learning to be vulnerable but not a doormat, in learning to laugh with your kids and enjoy moments of getting to watch them alone so much of the time, I would love to hear from you!
Email me for coaching, to ask a question I can answer on air (anonymously is fine!), or to share your story - I don't share on air without your permission of course!  :)
And I really appreciate your sharing this episode and leaving a 5 STAR review! That helps us get the word out to others too.
God Bless...

Setting goals is easy. Staying the course is difficult.
The devil loves to distract you and pull you away from God and your goals. Connecting with your why can help you stay the course whether you struggle in Lent or in life!
In this episode, you will dive into connecting with the reason you choose to sacrifice in Lent - and in life and learn three action steps you can take to learn the "why" behind choosing to suffer.
Of course, if I can help you discover your why or peacefully bear your burdens, send me an email or connect with me on social media. I would love to work with you!
God Bless...

Catholics celebrate the Feast of Saint Joseph on March 19th.
In this world that seriously lacks real MEN, Saint Joseph provides us an incredible example of what a mere mortal man can strive to become.
If you want to raise strong boys or show your girls who they should look for in dating relationships, if you need to know who to look for in dating relationships, or if you are stuck in a loveless Marriage and not sure how to pray for your husband, Saint Joseph is the silent, strong, capable, follower of our Lord ready to help when called upon.
Why not embrace the man God chose to raise Jesus, be lord of his household, and prince over all his possessions by making Saint Joseph the head of your household too?
You will be so glad you did - and Jesus will be too! :)
God Bless...
